Peugeot has just introduced a new high-efficiency version of its small Partner van to go up against Ford's new Transit Connect ecoNetic. Like the Ford, the new Partner is powered by a diesel engine, in this case a 90 hp 1.6-liter four cylinder. The engine is equipped with Peugeot's own particulate filter system that virtually eliminates soot emissions. As of January of this year, Peugeot has built 3 million DPF-equipped vehicles.
The Partner has a cargo capacity of 1873 lbs and 116 cubic feet. Even with that capability, the Partner gets 44.4 mpg (U.S.) on the European combined cycle. Carbon dioxide emissions are rated at 140 g/km. Small commercial vans like this are popular in crowded European cities for use by small businesses. It will be interesting to see how Ford's Transit Connect does when it goes on sale here in the U.S. this summer.

PEUGEOT PARTNER THE PERFECT PARTNER FOR GREEN VAN MAN
- Peugeot's New Partner Van is now available with a diesel particulate filter system (FAP)
- CO2 emissions of 140 g/km and 53.3 mpg in the combined cycle
- Peugeot undisputed leader of diesel particulate filter technology
- Available in S L1 850 kg van version
- £12,665 basic MRRP.
Peugeot will strengthen its green credentials further in the LCV Market with the introduction of a new 1.6 litre HDi 90 bhp engine, combined with an additive-enhanced diesel particulate filter system (FAP) in its New Partner van.
As the leading manufacturer of vehicles fitted with diesel particulate filter systems, Peugeot has set the standard for diesel engines and has given itself a leading position as regards future Euro V regulations, which will make it mandatory for all new diesel engine vehicles to be fitted with particulate filters from September 2009.
It was, in fact, January of this year that the 3 millionth vehicle equipped with the Group's diesel particulate filter system (FAP) rolled off the assembly line at PSA Peugeot Citroën's plant in Poissy, France. To date, over 1.6 million Peugeot models have been produced with this system
Peugeot's patented, additive-based technology was first launched worldwide in May 2000 on the Peugeot 607, before gradually extending across the Peugeot car and LCV range. Today nine Peugeot models are available with diesel particulate filter systems including the Peugeot Expert and New Partner van.
Steadily improved over the years, Peugeot's additive-based technology has proven its effectiveness in eliminating even the smallest particulates. The current technology, with its “Octosquare” filter technology and second generation additive, provides driver's with a maintenance-free solution.
By including this engine option in the Partner van it further strengthens Peugeot leading position with regards to environmental protection and the production of clean, environmentally-friendly vehicles.
The 1.6 litre HDi FAP diesel engine fitted to the New Partner van is, first and foremost all about good performance including starting, acceleration, driveability and low fuel consumption. With a maximum torque of 158 lb ft at just 1,750 rpm, it has a very broad operating range, perfectly matched to the requirements of a light commercial vehicle. Another feature of this engine is its low fuel consumption of 53.3 mpg in the combined cycle and CO2 emissions of only 140 g/km when fitted to the L1 HDi 90 FAP 850 kg payload van.
