{"id":5624,"date":"2021-01-10T00:51:48","date_gmt":"2021-01-10T00:51:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/archive.abuelsamid.com\/?p=5624"},"modified":"2021-01-10T18:25:55","modified_gmt":"2021-01-10T18:25:55","slug":"chevy-volt-battery-plant-location-to-be-announced-this-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.abuelsamid.com\/?p=5624","title":{"rendered":"Chevy Volt battery plant location to be announced this week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Chevy Volt battery pack &#8211; click above for high-res image gallery<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Back in January at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/detroit-auto-show\/\">Detroit Auto Show<\/a>, then-CEO Rick Wagoner announced that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/category\/gm\/\">General Motors<\/a> would be building the battery packs for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/chevrolet\/volt\/\">Chevy Volt<\/a> at a new plant to be located somewhere in Michigan. At the time, no one from the company would admit where the plant would be located although it was presumed it wouldn&#x27;t be far from Detroit. The Volt will be assembled at the Detroit-Hamtramck factory and the bulk of the battery packs makes it logistically advantageous to limit the shipping distance. A few weeks back, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/category\/rumormill\/\">rumor<\/a> surfaced that the plant would be in <a href=\"http:\/\/green.autoblog.com\/2009\/07\/17\/report-gm-to-locate-volt-battery-plant-in-brownstown-twp-mi\/\">Brownstown Township<\/a> south of the city.<\/p>\n<p>We should be getting confirmation this week after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/category\/gm\/\">GM&#x27;s<\/a> Bob Kruse announced on Friday that the company would be using its $105.9 million share of <a href=\"http:\/\/green.autoblog.com\/2009\/08\/05\/obama-announces-battery-grants-big-three-michigan-li-ion-comp\/\">the battery grants announced this week<\/a> to build the facility.
