This probably has something to do with the fact that they are classed as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/category\/motorcycles\/\">motorcycles<\/a> and therefore not subject to pesky <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/category\/safety\/\">automotive safety<\/a> regulations like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/crash+test\/\">crash tests<\/a>. A company called FuelVapor Technologies has created a car called the Al\u00e9 which they are intending to enter in the Automotive X-Prize and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2006\/11\/01\/sema-al-contending-for-automotive-x-prize\/\">our buddy John from Autoblog actually spotted it at the SEMA show<\/a> last fall.<\/p>\n<p>The X-Prize is looking for cars that exceed 100mpg and the Al\u00e9 currently only gets a claimed 92mpg from its modified <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/honda\/\">Honda<\/a> four-cylinder engine. The team has developed a fuel system they claim vaporizes the gasoline and runs at extremely  line  lean air-fuel ratios. Currently it looks like it&#x27;s optimized more for performance than efficiency so they probably have some room for adjustment.
