Its best shot at a major automotive battery program seemed to be <a href=\"http:\/\/green.autoblog.com\/2009\/04\/06\/chrysler-to-use-a123-cells-in-its-electric-vehicles\/\">with Chrysler<\/a>, until we found out that all those plug-in vehicles we saw in Detroit last January had <a href=\"http:\/\/green.autoblog.com\/2009\/11\/07\/report-chrysler-disbands-envi-group-ev-development-will-contin\/\">been pretty much killed<\/a>. With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/chrysler\/\">Chrysler<\/a> uninterested for now, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/category\/gm\/\">GM<\/a> going with LG Chem and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/ford\/\">Ford<\/a> opting for Johnson Controls-Saft, the fate of A123&#x27;s plans for a Michigan battery plant are unknown.<\/p>\n<p>For now, A123 seems to be looking to China. Last week, A123 announced a new joint venture with Shanghai Automotive Industries Company (SAIC) to produce complete battery packs in China. The packs will be targeted at both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/plug-in+hybrid\/\">plug-in hybrid<\/a> and pure battery <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/electric\/\">electric vehicles<\/a>. The new venture will be 51 percent owned by SAIC with A123 holding the rest.
