{"id":5274,"date":"2021-01-10T00:50:49","date_gmt":"2021-01-10T00:50:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/archive.abuelsamid.com\/?p=5274"},"modified":"2021-01-10T18:29:02","modified_gmt":"2021-01-10T18:29:02","slug":"diesel-likely-to-continue-dominating-vw-touareg-sales-over-hybrid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.abuelsamid.com\/?p=5274","title":{"rendered":"Diesel likely to continue dominating VW Touareg sales over hybrid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>2011 Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid \u2013 Click above for high-res image gallery<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We had the opportunity to chat about the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/volkswagen\/touareg\/\">Touareg<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/make\/volkswagen\/\">Volkswagen<\/a> of America communications director Steve Keyes at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/category\/new-york-auto-show\/\">New York Auto Show<\/a> this week. The all-new and much lighter second-generation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/model\/touareg\">Touareg<\/a> debuted last month in Geneva with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/volkswagen\/\">VW&#x27;s<\/a> first production <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/hybrid\/\">hybrid<\/a> drivetrain. Shortly after the Touareg debuted, we learned that the price in Germany <a href=\"http:\/\/green.autoblog.com\/2010\/02\/26\/volkswagen-touareg-hybrid-costs-almost-23k-more-than-diesel-in\/\">would be some \u20ac23,000 more than the 3.0-liter V6 TDI<\/a> model. Clearly that doesn&#x27;t bode well for sales of the hybrid.<\/p>\n<p>According to Keyes, the Touareg U.S. price won&#x27;t be announced until closer to the on-sale date here this fall. He did acknowledge that the price premium would not be nearly as large as it is in Europe. This makes sense, since that kind of pricing would clearly be commercial suicide (our description, not Keyes). Since the Touareg TDI V6 went on sale last year, it has captured an increasingly large share of the sales for VW&#x27;s big SUV. Keyes tells us that the TDI currently accounts for about half of all Touareg sales and he expects that share to remain consistent when the new version arrives.
