The Corolla-based Auris will be the first Toyota hybrid model to be assembled in Europe starting this spring. On the EU drive cycle it has scored a very impressive 61.9 miles per gallon (U.S.) with CO2 emissions of just 89 grams per kilometer. Toyota still hasn't said exactly which powertrain the Auris is using, but since its consumption and emissions numbers match the corresponding figures for the Prius on the same test, we're guessing it's the same 1.8-liter engine found in the alpha hybrid.

The Auris HSD is a bit smaller than the Prius, falling into the C-segment with the likes of the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf. Auris will be in fact the first Toyota core model available with full hybrid technology, offering the C segment customers a unique choice of petrol, diesel or full hybrid powertrains.

Auris HSD generates class-leading CO2 emissions of just 89 g/km and fuel consumption of only 3.8 l/100 km in the European homologation combined cycle.

Unique to full hybrid technology, the Auris HSD can drive for up to two kilometres at speeds of up to about 50 km/h when operating in EV mode, generating zero CO2 and NOx emissions.

In addition to a smooth, sophisticated and stress-free driving experience, the Auris HSD represents also outstanding value for money. Its best-in-class CO2 emissions and fuel economy offer customers significant, pan-European tax incentives, inner city congestion charge exemption and exceptionally low running costs.

https://www.autoblog.com/2010/03/01/geneva-2010-toyota-auris-hsd-scores-61-9-mpg-u-s-and-89-g-km/

2010-03-01T17:07:00+00:00

Toyota has just released more details on its new Europe-only Auris HSD model.
