{"id":5172,"date":"2021-01-10T00:50:32","date_gmt":"2021-01-10T00:50:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/archive.abuelsamid.com\/?p=5172"},"modified":"2021-01-10T18:29:53","modified_gmt":"2021-01-10T18:29:53","slug":"chrysler-chery-hornet-may-be-close","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.abuelsamid.com\/?p=5172","title":{"rendered":"Chrysler-Chery Hornet may be close"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It looks like Chery may be very close to <a href=\"http:\/\/green.autoblog.com\/2006\/09\/26\/chrysler-and-chery-to-build-the-horrnet\/\">finalizing a deal<\/a> to build the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/mercedes_benz\/b_class\/\">B-Class<\/a> Hornet for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/chrysler\/\">Chrysler<\/a>. Daimler-Chrysler has repeatedly told analysts that they will have a deal to build the Hornet in place by the end of 2006. They definitely need a car like like the Hornet quickly, as the smallest car they currently offer is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/dodge\/caliber\/\">Caliber<\/a>, which is selling well but cannot compete with the likes of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/honda\/fit\/\">Honda Fit<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/nissan\/versa\/\">Nissan Versa<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/toyota\/yaris\/\">Toyota Yaris<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to Automotive News, Malcolm Bricklin of Yugo (and on a more positive note <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/subaru\/\">Subaru<\/a>) infamy, is actually pleased about the possibility of a deal between Chery and Chrysler. Bricklin announced his plans to import Chery vehicles to the US market under the Visionary Vehicles banner a couple of years ago. Bricklin has had difficulty signing up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/car-dealers\/\">dealers<\/a> for Visionary Vehicles because of concerns about quality from Chery (thanks in large part to the Yugo debacle). Bricklin claims that a Chrysler-Chery deal could help demonstrate the credibility of Chery&#x27;s production quality and make his plans easier. Of course depending on the nature of the deal it could come back to bite both Bricklin and Chery if they&#x27;re not careful. To date Chery has not been known for either ethical behavior or quality. They did clone the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/daewoo\/\">Daewoo<\/a> Matiz to create the Chery QQ.
